Timber Floor Repairs Sydney
Expert repair, sand and polish in one job — matched timber, fixed price, Sydney wide.
Advance Floors specialises in timber floor repairs across Sydney. We restore cracked boards, termite-damaged sections, water-cupped floorboards, renovation gaps left by wall removals, and surface damage using recycled and matched timber. Most damaged timber floors can be repaired without replacing the whole floor. We assess the damage on-site, source timber matched to your existing boards in species, width and grain, carry out the repair, then sand and polish the area back into the surrounding floor so the result is seamless. Over a decade of experience. Free on-site quote. Any competitor quote beaten: 1300 928 584.
Can Your Floor Be Repaired?
In almost every case, yes. Full replacement is the last resort, not the first response. Filter by your damage type below.
| Damage Type | Our Approach | Need to Vacate? | Timeframe |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cracked or split boards | Fill hairlines; replace split boards individually with matched timber | No | 1 day |
| Termite-damaged boards | Remove affected boards, check structural timbers beneath, replace with recycled matched timber | Usually not | 1–2 days |
| Water-cupped or swollen boards | Sand flat if subfloor is dry; replace boards if beyond sanding tolerance | No | 1–2 days |
| Renovation gaps (walls, doorways) | Fill with species-matched timber nailed to existing joists | Room needs to be clear | 1–2 days |
| Gap where fireplace was removed | Fill with matched timber replicating original board run direction | No | 1 day |
| Wide persistent gaps between boards | Fill or replace boards depending on cause; assessed on-site | No | 1 day |
| Surface scratches and scuffs | Spot sand and recoat; no board replacement needed | No | Half to 1 day |
What We Repair
Every repair type handled from assessment through to final finish. No subcontractors, no handoffs.
Termite & White Ant Damage
By the time a board feels soft underfoot, the damage below has been spreading for months. We remove affected boards, check structural timbers beneath, source recycled matched timber and replace before integrating the sanding and finish. We will not cover over a structural problem.
- Soft or spongy feeling underfoot
- Hollow sound when tapping boards
- Fine powder or sawdust near skirtings
- Bubbling or raised sections
Renovation Gaps
Wall removals, new doorways, kitchen reconfigurations — all leave a gap where boards used to run. New boards must land on existing joists, run in the original direction, and match timber that may be 50 years old. We use reclaimed stock specifically because new timber will not match an aged floor.
If the renovation also involved flooring removal, see our carpet removal and tile removal services.
Water & Moisture Damage
Water damage causes boards to cup, swell and darken. The moisture source must be resolved and the subfloor moisture-tested before we touch the floor.
Cupped boards that are structurally sound are often recoverable by sanding flat — a fraction of the cost of replacement. Where boards are beyond recovery, we replace and integrate with the surrounding floor.
Cracked & Split Boards
Sydney’s climate cycles — dry summers, humid winters — crack older hardwoods over time. Blackbutt, Spotted Gum, Tallowwood, Ironbark and Brush Box are all susceptible after decades of seasonal movement.
Hairline cracks are filled with a species-matched compound and refinished. Boards with structural splits are replaced individually without disturbing surrounding boards.
Surface Scratches, Scuffs & Dents
Heritage & Federation Floors
Heritage homes carry Australian hardwood species — Tallowwood, Ironbark, Brush Box — that are no longer milled in original widths and grades. Standard repair stock will not match.
We source reclaimed timber from Sydney demolitions to match grain, colour and width as closely as possible. We have completed repairs across Federation terraces, Edwardian semis and inter-war period homes throughout the inner suburbs and North Shore.
How Much Does Timber Floor Repair Cost?
Every repair is different. The cost depends on the extent of the damage, the timber species, board width, and whether sanding and polishing is needed to integrate the repair. No two jobs quote the same way from a phone call. That is why we come to you first.
Fixed written quote
You receive a written quote before any work begins. The scope is fixed. No variations, no extras discovered mid-job.
On-site in 20–40 minutes
We assess the damage in person, check the subfloor and identify the timber species before any number is put on paper.

Hand OverReady to walk on
We come to you — no photos, no guesswork from a phone call. One of our specialists visits your home, assesses the damage by eye and by hand, and checks the subfloor condition beneath the affected area. We identify the timber species, measure the boards, and note the existing finish type and sheen level. This takes 20 to 40 minutes and tells us everything we need to give you an accurate, locked quote. Most clients are surprised by how quickly we can diagnose a problem that has been bothering them for months.
Free of charge, no obligation to proceedWhat Sets Us Apart
Most floor repairers sand first and ask questions later. We do the opposite.
10+ Years on Sydney floors
Federation terraces in Paddington, post-war weatherboards on the North Shore, modern builds in the Hills District. We have repaired every era of Sydney residential flooring.
One job. Not three.
Repair, sanding and polishing done together in a single booking. No separate tradespeople, no visible seam between the repair and the finish. One team, one result.
We source recycled timber. Most don't.
Your floor has aged for decades. New stock will not match it. We source reclaimed Tallowwood, Ironbark, Brush Box and Blackbutt specifically so repairs disappear into the surrounding floor rather than standing out.
Fixed price. No surprises.
You get a written quote before we touch anything. The scope is locked. If we find something we did not expect, we tell you before we proceed — not after we have already done the work.
